Purpose of Policy

To ensure that children play purposefully and in safety during playtime and lunchtimes.

1. Methods

·        We will provide a range of play equipment appropriate for children’s age and stage of development to encourage purposeful play, and the development of physical and social skills in particular.

·        All play equipment will be maintained in good condition.

·        During morning, afternoon and lunchtime playtimes, two members of staff will supervise children.

·        All staff will attend First Aid training every 3 years and are aware of procedures for dealing with accidents.

·        The pupil team leaders will organise playtime games for groups of children and help younger children to join in.

·        Staff will ensure that children play purposefully and appropriately with equipment and each other.

·        Children are permitted to bring toys from home but use of these is at the discretion of the class teacher or supervisor. Children bringing in their own toys or games remain responsible for them during the school day.

·        Children are involved in developing and reviewing the Pupils Code of Behaviour.

·        We will help pupils to learn about keeping healthy through encouraging physical activity, providing fresh drinking water at all times, and milk at morning playtimes, promoting healthy school dinners, and being a member of the National Fruit & Vegetable Scheme.

·        Parents are asked NOT to bring dogs into the playground when children will be present.
