23 Apr 2008 - Suffolk Farm Fair
There was much excitement this morning in Badgers class as they prepared to set off for Trinity Park in Ipswich. After a short journey the excitement levels rose as the coach entered the park grounds and we were greeted by the sight of hundreds of other school children who were waiting to visit the farm fair.
As luck would have it, Badgers class arrived just as the farm machinery was putting on its display. Some of the boys were in seventh heaven!
Next we saw the sheep shearing demonstration. The shepherd explained that when a sheep is standing, its natural impulse is to run. But by cleverly laying the sheep on its side and taking its feet off the ground, it goes completely limp and then can be shawn.
In the big tent the children could pick up day old chicks and ducklings. They could also learn about grain, how it is grown and its uses.
The children could also learn about eggs, from hen to distribution. They learnt how to milk a cow, about bee keeping and weaving.
Even though the weather was wet, it was not enough to dampen our spirits and a lovely day was had by all.
